Biography

Dr. Fleckenstein graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1985 and completed her internship, residency and Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Hospitals in 1989. She completed her Gastroenterology fellowship and Transplant Hepatology training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1995. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology and she is a fellow in the American College of Physicians. She was faculty at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center from 1997-2012 where she served as Medical Director of Liver Transplantation from 1997-2006. She has chaired and served on several committees for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

Her research interests include racial differences in the response to treatment for hepatitis C and she served as both the clinical project leader and clinical core director for the UT Health Science Center Hepatitis C Cooperative Research Center from 2000-2010.

She treats all forms of liver disease in her clinic and has a special interest in the management of the complications of advanced cirrhosis.
