For over 40 years, the Gastroenterology Division at Washington University School of Medicine has been involved in the treatment, research, and training of diseases of the digestive tract. Our physicians are dedicated to providing exceptional care in a caring environment. We use the latest technology and the professional expertise of Barnes-Jewish Hospital to provide state-of-the-art patient care. The Gastroenterology Division is rated among the top twenty clinical centers in the nation and has received international recognition for contributions to the field. It is one of two centers in the country to have been awarded a Digestive Disease Research Core Center and a Clinical Nutrition Research Unit by the National Institutes of Health.

Over twenty board-certified specialists offer a comprehensive range of gastrointestinal (GI) subspecialties, including:
  • Treatment for diseases of the upper GI tract, like the esophagus, stomach and small intestines (duodenum)
  • Treatment for diseases of the lower GI tract like the large intestine, colon and rectum

    • The division also offers interventional and biliary endoscopy.
