"It is an exciting time for academic gastroenterology. I am fortunate to have the opportunity at Washington University to participate in both patient care and research. Our research focuses on finding novel therapies for both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. As a result, we have the unique privilege of being able to offer various experimental therapies to patients within the context of research studies in addition to the standard therapies for these disorders. Several clinical trials for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are ongoing and actively recruiting patients. The availability of these therapies for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis offers promise for many difficult to treat patients and allows our GI division to stay at the cutting edge of patient care. The IBD Center at Washington University in St. Louis is comprised of gastroenterologists, surgeons and researchers, all of whom are dedicated to delivering comprehensive patient care of the highest quality."
