Dr. Anisa Shaker was recruited to the Gastroenterology Division at Washington University School of Medicine in 2008 after completing her gastroenterology fellowship training at Washington University and Barnes Jewish Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Brown University.

Dr. Shaker is investigating the role of mesenchymal-epithelial interactions in the development of luminal gastrointestinal disorders. Working under the guidance of Dr. Deborah Rubin, Dr. Shaker is utilizing a mesenchymal protein knockout mouse model established in the Rubin lab to identify molecular mechanisms underlying mesenchymal-epithelial interactions in disease states such as inflammation and carcinogenesis.
