Sreenivasa Jonnalagadda, M.D.
Professor of Medicine
Director, Biliary and Pancreatic Endoscopy
Dr. Jonnalagadda is the Director of Biliary and Pancreatic Endoscopy. After graduating from Goa Medical College, India, he completed a residency in internal medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He gained further endoscopic experience as an advanced clinical fellow at the renowned Center for Therapeutic Endoscopy and Endoscopic Oncology, Wellesley Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada. He was recruited in 1999 to join the Interventional Endoscopy Section and the Division of Gastroenterology at the Washington University School of Medicine. He has been directing the Biliary and Pancreatic endoscopy program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine since January 2008.
Areas of clinical and research interest include biliary and pancreatic endoscopy, sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, sampling techniques in biliary malignancies, endoscopic palliation of malignancy, sedation for endoscopic procedures, endoscopic therapy of large colon polyps, role of newer imaging techniques such as cholangioscopy in patient management. Dr. Jonnalagadda is also interested in the expanding frontiers of endoscopy, such as endoscopic therapies for gastroesophageal reflux disease and obesity. The first TransOral Gastroplasty (TOGA) procedure in United States was performed at the Washington University School of Medicine by Dr. Jonnalagadda in 2008.
Dr. Jonnalagadda has directed the annual Saint Louis Live Therapeutic Endoscopy Course since it was initiated in 2007. This endoscopy course features live transmission of advanced endoscopic procedures from the Center of Advanced Medicine to the EPNEC Center with participation of nationally renowned experts within the field of endoscopy. This course is held in conjunction with the Fellows Advanced Endoscopy Program. He is also active in the scientific and educational mission of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
"The integration of various endoscopic and radiologic modalities to image the biliary tree and pancreas, endoscopic palliation of gastrointestinal malignancy and emerging technologies that expand the frontiers of endoscopy are areas of interest to me."
